    Sociological Experience
Sociology is not produced uniquely in the secret of laboratories and dialogue with the major authors. Despite what might be thought, it is as much an intellectual as a scientific activity involved in the social world and its problems.
In this book, the author recounts the path he has followed in his endeavour to construct his point of view about social life. His itinerary is punctuated by the research projects which constitute the chapters of this book: social movements, the deprived peripheral urban areas, education, social justice and the sociology of experience. The author endeavours to show how sociology, which is constantly asking the same questions, constructs answers which are as much the concern of theoretical choices as they are of the nature of the conflicts, the discussions and the experiences which it is the task of sociology to reveal in the social routines of life.
This taking stock covers roughly thirty years of research; it is also presented as a reflection on the activity of a sociologist and the changes in our society. Sociology is depicted here as being not so much a doctrine as an intellectual 'adventure' and a way of defining social action by the choice of a method.
